Just about every holiday guide has their own top 20, 50 or 100 places to visit. Unless you’re super rich though, it’s unlikely you’ll able to get around to every single ‘must see’ destination, so what’s a realistic goal that’s not only adventurous but great to tell people about at parties? How about making it your life plan to visit every single one of the wonders in the world?
You might think that wouldn’t be that easy – but then again, that depends on what list you want to look at. Plenty of people have climbed on board to provide holiday makers and sightseers with their own personal list of the 7 wonders, but perhaps the best list to try to accomplish is the ‘New 7 Wonders’ list which was derived from a Swiss competition in 2007.
The list includes the Taj Mahal, Petra, Christ the Redeemer, Machu Pichu, Chichen Itza, the Roman Colossuem, the Great Wall of China and the Great Pyramid. These are all absolutely breath taking sights, although you will need to travel to seven separate countries to see them all. Luckily, three of them are all relatively close to each other in South America, but after that you’ll need to jet of to China for the Great Wall, India for the Taj Mahal and – you guessed it – Egypt for the Pyramids.
Although these sites are all very accessible to modern tourists, not many of them are close to modern beaches so if you’re looking to have a relaxing beach trip and then go hunting for Machu Pichu, you can expect quite a trip.
If you don’t like the look of that list, American newspaper USA Today came up with a list that included two American locations and a slightly different take on what makes a world wonder. There is a problem though: one of the destinations listed is the ‘The Internet’. Good luck finding a long haul flight there!
