Tenerife is the largest of all the Canary Islands and can be accessed from most UK airports within about 4 hours, making it an ideal ‘quick getaway’. The sheer number of British tourists travelling to Tenerife shows off the capacity for Tenerife holidays to be both cheap and enjoyable, especially for the younger 18-30 generation and family holidays that the island caters to. The island itself has good temperatures all year round, the summer season being perfect for guaranteed beach weather while the winter making warm weather for hiking and cycling holidays.
By far the busiest and most popular resort for Tenerife holidays is Playa de las Americas which offers a huge amount of value for money, appealing to both young couples and families. There are the usual watersports and night time entertainment offered but there’s also a huge waterpark which is great for entertaining the kids a lot longer than a simple swimming pool and a beach – and its fun for adults as well. If you do want to find more adult entertainment during the evenings there’s a number of large casinos and a huge range of different bars around.
Exploring the island outside of the resorts is made easier by hiring a car. Tenerife is a larger island but still perfectly car friendly and you can drive around easily without having to worry about long journeys or traffic. Hiring a car is incredibly cheap on the island as so many people choose it as way to get around, although if you can’t drive there’s an excellent taxi service. The taxis in Tenerife will set you back more than hiring a car, but they won’t break the bank either.
Although families and young people are the focus for many resorts, resorts like Los Gigantes offer a stunning contrast to the family orientated areas with a larger focus on laid back holidays, walking hiking and scenic views, attracting many of the older generation looking for more relaxing Tenerife holidays without the noise and bustle of a large resort.
