Menorca is a small island but despite its size, it has more beaches than the rest of the Balearics put together – which is no mean feat. The island is often confused with Majorca thanks to its name and proximity to the popular party island, but where Majorca is known for having a party attitude and a large tourist population of 18-30s looking for fun, holidays to Menorca are much more low key and there many more relaxing resorts; the perfect places for a bit of rest and relaxation. There’s certainly nightlife on the island, but it’s more geared towards couples and families.

The island is a Mecca for beach lovers everywhere and only a quick glance at photos should explain more than words ever could. One of the most famous beaches visited by people on holidays to Menorca is the Cala Galdana, where Grace Kelly had her honeymoon. There is a lot of commercialisation going on in the area around the Galdana now but for at least the next few years the area remains quite beautiful and amazingly natural.

There are plenty of places away from the shore that can offer up an interesting visit if you can peel yourself away from the beach. If you’re looking to get away from the other tourists and enjoy some Spanish culture, the town of Ciutadella offers something truly Spanish and a trip down to the harbour and away from the main shopping areas will leave you feeling like you’re the only tourist on the island. There are even a few museums and a cathedral to look around if you get the time.

Holidays to Menorca enjoy the same climate and seasons as all the other Balearic islands, so the island is the warmest during June-September, although if you’re looking for the best deals on flights and accommodation you could consider a trip in May or perhaps even earlier, depending on how much time you want to be spending on the beach. Late June to early September is the Fiesta season so if you want to see dancing in the street and a range of traditional festivals, there isn’t a better time to go.
