Holidays to Lanzarote are typically described and sold as beach holidays, with the islands cheap prices and location making an ideal trip for UK tourists. It’s also gained an unfair reputation as being more like the UK than a Spanish country due to the immense amount of UK tourists that visit, but that doesn’t mean that Lanzarote has nothing to offer. On the contrary, the country is far more interesting than many people give it credit for.
Lanzarote is one of the Canary Islands and can be found about 90 miles from the coast of North Africa giving it some of the best weather of all the islands. A flight from the UK takes around 4 hours so it’s a great short haul destination, plus there’s no EU duty unlike on the Spanish mainland, so you can enjoy some good value shopping while you’re there.
Lanzarote is a volcanic island like the other Canaries, but unlike the larger islands the landscape of Lanzarote is almost entirely volcanic and there isn’t quite as much lush green vegetation contrasting the landscape. This can lead the island to really looking like another world and a trip to the national park on a tour bus can open your eyes to just how unique the landscape of the country can be, with eruptions occurring on the island as little as 300 years ago.
People booking holidays to Lanzarote have quite a large range of resorts considering the size of the island, but if you want to avoid that ‘British’ feeling, Playa Blanca and Costa Tesquise are great options and offer closer access to more genuine Spanish culture. Wherever you end up staying car rental is recommended to see as much of the island with as little fuss as possible, although it’s not vital for seeing the biggest sites.
Holidays to Lanzarote typically extend further into the winter months and start earlier than the other Canary Islands. Lanzarote is known for its year round holiday potential. The hottest weather is still enjoyed in the summer months though watch out for the crowds in July and August.
