August is by far the most popular time of the year to go on holiday, beating even Christmas and Easter to the top spot for the amount of UK holidaymakers planning to get away. This period is typically favoured by families especially those with children at school age, as an August Holiday can help avoid all the various complications and legal problems of trying to take a break outside of a school holiday. August is one of the few times in the school year when it's guaranteed that no school is in session and that the whole month is free to book a holiday.
Not only are august holidays popular with families, they also happen to be one of the best times of the year to get away to just about any destination thanks to the weather. There are very few places that aren't warm in August and most actually enjoy constant sunshine and heat so you have much less risk of getting caught out by rain or mediocre temperatures if you choose august holidays.
This popularity brings with it two problems. The first is that as demand rises for holidays, so does the prices of flights and hotels. On top of this, availability is low and August is a common time to find disappointment if you had a particular destination or resort in mind before you go. With this in mind, the best way to approach August holidays is not through last minute bookings like you might do out-of-season, but instead by booking far in advance which can save you money and help you to secure the best places in the nicest hotels.
Booking as long as a year in advance can be the best was to sort out your August holidays, although it does mean paying a deposit and doing some guesswork as to when you'll be able to take time away from the 'real world'. If you truly want to save though, it can sometimes be best to wait until children are back in school when prices will take a sharp drop and last minute booking can once again net you a bargain.
