Cyprus has had a long history of invasion and turmoil, and it’s one that extends right up to recent times. However, the country has an unfair reputation for being unstable. It’s a reputation people who take holidays to Cyprus can easily cash in on: the island not only offers huge, amazing blue-water beaches but also stunning views, tours and scenery and far less crowded summer beaches than you’ll find on the canary of Balearic islands. And did we mention the island has an 11 story Debenhams?
Cyprus reputation is growing not only because of its amazing beaches and culture but also because Ayia Napa is starting to rival some of the biggest destinations in the world as a party capital. The town has grown from a small village to a huge centre of entertainment and nightlife. Clubs stay open until the early hours and the party is just as likely to spill into the street. Even better, the clubs and drinks are both much cheaper on holidays to Cyprus than they are for people travelling to Ibiza, so you can save a bit of money as you party as well!
The island used to be divided, but now holiday makers are free to travel to the Northern part of the country which is one of the few places in the Mediterranean where life remains relatively unspoiled. There’s far less nightlife and resorts on the Northern part of the island but even if you’re not interested in the slower pace of holiday it’s worth spending a day walking around Kyrenia, the North’s capital. Special tours are made out to the North by many southern coastal resorts, so you don’t have to worry about trying to organise the trip yourself.
The summer season for holidays in Cyprus is extended from what you might see elsewhere in the Med. You can expect great weather from as early as May to as late as November, with these months also being the best if you want to get the cheapest deals on accommodation. Those wishing to see the sites and culture of the island can get great deals on accommodation in the north throughout the year.
