After New Years, children start back to school and Christmas holidays end, so many people must get back to work, so booking slows down a little.

Tour companies buy hotel rooms and airplane seats in bulk, and if they have so many left over close to departure date, they tend to reduce the price quite significantly. They simply want to get the seats filled and the rooms paid for so they don’t have to release them back to the suppliers.
