Everyone likes to go on holiday. Even people who can’t make a break this year wish they could, and people that can tend to live for the few weeks in a year when they can get away from the UK. But do holidays always have to be what we expect? The most typical use for the term ‘holiday’ will invoke tropical beaches or at the very least, exotic locations. But that doesn’t mean you have to travel five thousand miles or even step on an aeroplane at all to have a great holiday.
At its most basic, a holiday is a break from normality. For some, that means flying as far away from possible from the UK, but for others it can mean something as simple as spending just a single day away from responsibilities of being an adult, or just appreciating the outdoors for once. In the last few years, the idea of the great British holiday has been making a comeback, but going back to the sixties and spending a week at a holiday camp still sounds like hell to a lot of people, even those that used to do it in the past!
Luckily, there are ways to enjoy a holiday in the UK and avoid dodgy entertainment and soggy fish and chips – you just have to approach the idea in a different way. Think of your holiday simply as doing something for you. Get the time off work, organise your partner and just take a look at a map and see what you want to do. Many times we get so fixated on the exotic and intangible that we miss what’s right on our doorstep, and you’d be surprised the amount of tourist attractions England can offer, from water parks to stately homes, we’ve got a lot going for us.
So if your holiday is coming round and you need to get out of the country, pop online and see what deals you can grab. But if you can’t afford to get away this year or you just want a change of pace, don’t rule England out completely and don’t think you’re not having a holiday just because you don’t leave from a terminal – our country has a lot to offer on its own!
